LITHUANIAN ENERGY MUSEUM

Het energiemuseum van Vilnius (Litouwen) bevindt zich op het terrein van een voormalige elektriciteitscentrale en wordt beheerd door LIETUVOS ENERGIJA. In het jaarverslag 2008 (p. 27) van dit elektriciteitsbedrijf wordt de voltooiing aangekondigd van een uitbreidingsproject dat met EU-steun uitgevoerd werd en jaren aangesleept heeft: de oppervlakte werd van 850 op 5250 m² gebracht en het museum presenteert nu verschillende aspecten van het technisch erfgoed, niet alleen meer de energie. Het bevat twee interactieve tentoonstellingen, nl 'Ingenieurswetenschap' en 'Techniek voor Kinderen'.

Het museum heeft geen eigen website, maar wel een uitgebreide pagina op een overkoepelende site van Litouwse musea. Op dit ogenblik is deze pagina nog niet aangepast (het museum is 'under reconstruction'), ofwel was de informatie van het jaarverslag voorbarig.

In the autumn of 2008, the project Reorganisation of the Energy Museum of Lithuania into the Technical Museum of Lithuania by refurbishing a cultural and historical heritage site ­ the building of the first central power plant of Vilnius ­ for the purposes of tourism was completed.
The main purpose of the project was to carry out the reconstruction of an industrial facility, with the preservation of the authentic power plant equipment, and to adapt it for cultural and tourist needs. The area of the Energy Museum was extended from 800 to 5230 m2, becoming the largest museum in Lithuania presenting different areas of technical heritage. There are two interactive expositions in the museum: Engineering Science and Engineering for Children.
